Common ETL Errors and Troubleshooting

This KBA explains the common errors and troubleshooting of ETL

Overview

This article covers common errors encountered when using the Fenergo ETL (Extract, Transfer, Load) tool, along with their causes and recommended fixes.

Error: Date Value Cannot Be Parsed

  • Cause: Non-supported date format in the uploaded file.

  • Fix:

    1. Use dd/mm/yyyy with the Date Parse transformation

    2. Or format all dates in ISO 8601 (1998-03-17T00:00:00.0000000) and do not apply the transformation.

Error: Duplicate/Missing Headers

  • Cause: Incorrect column headers in CSV.

  • Fix:

    • Ensure each column has a unique header.

    • Delete and re-upload the file.

Error: Antivirus Scan Failed

  • Cause: File did not pass virus scan.

  • Fix: Check file integrity, scan locally and re-upload.

Error: Validation Fails But Mapping Looks Correct

  • Cause: Hidden mandatory fields, incorrect data formats or missing values.

  • Fix:

    • Review validation report

    • Fix source data or update policy

    • Re-upload or clone and remap as needed

Error: Load Not Available

  • Cause: Another load is running or validation has not been completed.

  • Fix:

    • Wait for ongoing load to complete

    • Ensure all sections are marked 'Complete' and re-run validation

Error: Too Many Records in File

  • Cause: Exceeding the 10,000 record limit.

  • Fix: Split data into smaller files and upload separately.

Error: Cloning Doesn’t Retain Mapping

  • Cause: Different file names used.

  • Fix: Ensure file names in the cloned project exactly match those in the original project.

Error: Preview Doesn’t Show Expected Data

  • Cause: Filters or joins misconfigured.

  • Fix:

    • Double-check filter logic

    • Recheck joins and relationships between tables

Error: System Error on Load

  • Cause: Network or system resource issue.

  • Fix:

    • Retry with a new project for only the failed entities

    • Use reconciliation report to identify any failure points

Error: Datagroup Mapping Issues

  • Cause: Incorrect ParentID, missing fields, or mismatch with main entity.

  • Fix:

    • Ensure the datagroup has a valid parent ID field (PARENTALTERNATEID or PARENTFENXID)

    • Validate file contains system and policy mappings
